Funeral services for Dorothy Collins Hess (Doy) (Mama Hess) (GrannyPa), 93, of Center, were held Saturday, June 8, 2024, at McClelland Community Church in Shelbyville with visitation beginning at Noon. Bro. Chris Collins and Bro. Jon Collins will officiate. Interment will follow at McClelland Cemetery in Shelbyville. She passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in Nacogdoches.

Born February 15, 1931, in Center, Dorothy is the daughter of Edmond Frank Collins and Stella Mae Graves Collins. She had a passion for songwriting, and music was a part of who she was. Her fondest memories were when she lived in Nashville working with many country music stars.

Her hobbies included reading, collecting and documenting family history, writing letters to family and pen pals from high school, gardening, and estate sales. She had a servant’s heart, always wanting to help her family and friends. She had a quote, “It will never be too early in the morning, or too late at night – all you have to do is give me a call and I will be there.” Dorothy was a member of McClelland Community Church in Shelbyville, where she was affectionately known as Aunt Doy to many.

She is survived by her children, Roger Hess (Jackie) of Round Top, Troy Hess of Center, Colleen Carls of Tomball, Janalyn (Jan) Parent of Katy, Myra Lamb of San Jacinto, and Darlene Peek of Caldwell; grandchildren, Roger Hess Jr. (Jennifer) of Spring, Nikki Sarvis (Brian) of Tomball, Jennifer Fairchild (Billy) of Lubbock, Chris Sullivan of Round Top, Mindy Sturrock (Dylan) of Bullard, Tyler Geer (Kait) of Round Top, Zane Geer of Fairbanks, Alaska, Derek Ferrell, LaDawn Rhodes (Tanner) of Fort Worth, Heath Carls of Webster, Austin Hess of Houston, Matthew Hess of Houston, Ronnie Lamb, Mark Lamb, Keith Lamb, Becky Wilson, Darla Preston, Tammy Lamb, Norris and Nadine McManus of Caldwell; great grandchildren, Hunter, Chance, Lane, Brooklyn, Rylan, Bostyn, Elliott, Kamryn, Conor, Sutton, Kohen, Steeley, Sutherland, Briar, Braelyn, Brady, and Sarah; and numerous other great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by husband, Bennie Hess; daughter, Margie McDonald; parents, Edmond Frank Collins and Stella Mae Graves Collins; brother, Lonnie Collins; sister, Marcia Wood; sister-in-law, Linda Collins; and brother-in-law, Don Wood.

Pallbearers will be James Alvis, Jon Collins, Cory Collins, Bradley Jamison, Mac Collins, Ed Prislac, and Brian Collins. Honorary pallbearer will be Ronnie Gregg.
